Educational Studies and Digital Technology - (ESDT) One-line. My role includes curriculum development and course material delivery. This program recognizes the growing importance and the current trends in formal and informal lifelong learning, as professional development needs to expand across academic, corporate, non-profit, and volunteer sectors. The course focuses on Digital Media and Graphic Design in Educational Studies and Digital Technology (ESDT) - emphasizing real-world, inquiry-based learning to provide students with the best opportunities to develop job-ready skills in training and instruction using digital technology. The fully online courses utilizing Canvas/LMS are designed to allow access from a wide range of mobile devices. The courses utilize video-based lectures (Adobe Connect), mobile-enabled video-conferencing tutorials, and a wide array of social media tools, providing a rich and collaborative learning environment.

Acting as the Academic Consultant for the visionary Aurora Inc. (AMAEG) and the University for Interactivity, Design, Entertainment Arts & Sciences (UCiDEAS) - with corporate offices in London, UK and a first campus planned for Oxford, the UK with additional campuses to follow in Europe, Asia, Singapore, and the MENA (UAE) region.

UCiDEAS is a post-secondary leading-edge institution under the Aurora Media Arts & Education Group (AMAEG) focused on interactivity, design, entertainment arts, and sciences degrees targeting a potential market of 400,000 + media students across Europe, the Middle East, South-East Asia, and China. We are very grateful to our strategic academic partner the University of Falmouth in the UK for working closely with us for full accreditation and for our double and joint BA & MA degree programs.

As the Creative Strategist, my role is to guide a team in the development of digital innovation through transformational media, educational content, and ubiquitous disruptive technologies, with a central focus on bringing something new and meaningful to the table. Our creative business core embraces a wide range of emerging markets including entertainment (to include - TV, Games, XR/AR/VR/AI), Technology, Education, eCommerce, IoT, Fintech, and startup incubation. As entrepreneurs, we all share a passion for solving many of the world’s social issues. By leveraging technology and innovation, we plan to drive change through social impact partnerships, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG’s).

Program Manager: Digital Animation and Creative Content (undergraduate)

 

As Program Co-ordinator, I was responsible for the implementation of the SIVA Digital Animation and Creative Content Program. The program is a world-class three-year undergraduate 3D Animation program utilizing innovative technology and taught by an international-standard faculty, with the objective of nurturing the future leaders of the Chinese Creative Entertainment industry. The Centre is a highly innovative, hybrid production and training pipeline facility for Chinese Film, Animation, Digital Media, Television and Games production. I managed department instructors and staff; initiated and supervised the development of an online LMS and also led collaborative teams contributing to program planning, review, and assessment strategies.

As Academic Chair, I managed the functions and processes associated with the development, delivery, monitoring, and assessment of academic programs to the relevant quality of HCT & Government standards. I was accountable to lead the subject matter experts and course team leader to regularly improve the curriculum, teaching resources, and development of new programs in the areas of Computer Graphics, Graphic Design, Film and Video Production, Animation, and Corporate Communications. I was actively involved as a senior member of the DAT (Divisional Academic Team), with responsibility for developing program pathways, accreditation, program review, and assessment strategy, including the implementation of blended and online learning using LMS/Blackboard. Included in my role were managing department budgets and serving on the screening and interview teams for new faculty hires. In addition, I provided leadership in the research and development of innovative teaching and learning techniques utilizing mobile app technology.

As Co-ordinator and Professor, I supervised the Digital Media Arts Program which included: Computer Graphics, Web Development, Film Production, Multimedia, and Portfolio Development. I was also actively involved in the research; design and delivery of curriculum to enhance media-based courses and new initiatives for implementing 2D Digital Animation Programs.

Manager and Professor – Digital Media Centre (DMC): (1994 - 2001)

 

The Animation Arts Center (formerly Digital Media Centre)

I founded, developed, and was the Manager of the highly acclaimed Animation Arts Centre and led the development of a new 3D Animation Post Graduate Program. I was actively involved in liaison with the entertainment industry in the US and Canada and the research and implementation of the new VFX curriculum. On occasional overseas trips, I consulted and presented in Beijing, China for the Animation and TV gaming industry - lecturing on Storyboarding Techniques, 2D Animation concepts, and Professional Studio Production Techniques. The Digital Media Centre operated as a “professional production studio environment.” Industry-standard software included SoftImage, Alias/Maya, Flame, Smoke, and Combustion. I also initiated a student research department based on the “Desktop Motion Capture” system by PuppetWorks. Many of the students have gone on to work in top Animation companies in the industry including, Sony Pictures, Lucas Arts, DreamWorks, ILM, Pixar, and Disney.

 

*In 2004 - A select team of Seneca Animation Arts Centre graduate students - awarded a USA Academy Award (Oscar) and Genie (Canada), for the Animated Short “RYAN”.

 

Prior to this position, I was the Coordinator of the Digital Media Arts Program at Seneca College, School of Communication Arts - (1989 -1994).

Founded, developed and managed an innovative Digital Media Centre for F/X Corporation with a focus on specialized advanced Animation and VFX Training for the industry.
